The Indian Leprosy Foundation conferred the most prestigious MOTHER TERESA MEMORIAL AWARD, 2002-2003 on ST ANNES SCHOOL for outstanding resource mobilization and social work in the field of leprosy.
The students of St Annes School collected over Rs 1.53 lacs for THE NATIONAL LEPROSY ERADICATION PROGRAMME (NLEP), which was the highest collection in the entire Rajasthan region. In recognition of this star performance St Annes School , represented by Ms J Aparna and Ms Farah Sultana , was awarded the MOTHER TERESA SHIELD in the ILEF GRANTS /AWARDS FUNCTION2002-2003( Northern region)held at Jaipur on 10th October 2003 by the president of the ILF Dr A R K Pillai and the chief guest Shri P N Rachhoya (ADG Police , RPA-Jaipur).
Leprosy is a debilitating disease which causes permanent deformities and for centuries people believed that it did not have a cure and they treated the leprosy patients as “social outcastes”.
Mother Teresa said “ I have come to realize more and more that the greatest disease and the greatest suffering is to be unwanted , unloved , uncared for , to be shunned by everybody , to be just nobody ( to no one )” ----My Life For The Poor.
THE INDIAN LEPROSY FOUNDATION which is a leading voluntary organization, works in collaboration with the union and State Health Ministries . Its aim is the complete eradication of this crippling disease by providing free hospitalization and to educate the people to remove their fear , ignorance and superstitious beliefs about this entirely curable disease . Citizens participation and continued support are absolutely necessary to achieve success in this endeavor.
St Annes School has shown its sensitivity towards this social cause by actively participating in the ILEF drive and raising the highest donation in the Rajasthan region.
On Monday 13th October , Dr ARK Pillai personally conferred THE MOTHER TERESA MEMORIAL AWARD to Mrs Annie Cherian , Principal , St Annes School during the School Assembly.39 students of StAnnes School were also felicitated. They were awarded Gold medals for ‘ Star Performance In Resource Generation’.
